The Olympics are coming! I was in the centre of Basingstoke earlier on for the kids’ swimming lessons, and noticed the Sports Centre, Kestrel FM and lots of local sports clubs were running a “Celebration of Sport”. Zac enjoyed the fencing demo particularly and both the kids were really excited by the Team GB kit on show – the Sports Centre sponsor several local atheletes. The kids also liked the mayor’s gold chain!

The Sports Centre were also running a “challenge the athlete” competition to win a month’s free “gold” membership – or a whole year, if you beat them… Too good an opportunity to miss, right?

Well, 2 km time trial on an exercise bike later, I’m a lucky member of the Sports Centre for the next 12 months! I’m planning to take advantage of the Monday night “Adult Fitness Training” programmed swim with one of the coaches from the Basingstoke Bluefins. It may be a chance to meet some of the Basingstoke Tri Squad too. I’m a bit nervous as I haven’t done any proper swimming for about 20 years!
