After wrapping up 2013, I fully intended to plan out my 2014 triathlon season right then in January. Injury, illness and other bits and pieces have held me back but I think it must be finally time to select a race or two to enter. I’m really not confident that it’s worthwhile this year but I think I’m going to have a second go at the GB qualifier at Nottingham.
Nottingham is less than six weeks away, so it’s going to be an abbreviated build-up; I’d already raced three or four times by this point last year and had done six or more tri/du/aquathlons before going to Nottingham.
I think the following selection from all the events on my calendar could work.
11 May 2014 – Salisbury Fast Twitch (400m/29km/6km) – warm up, cf. two years’ ago
17 May 2014 – Emsworth-Basingstoke Relay – fun, cf. two years’ ago
24 May 2014 – Eton SuperSprint Saturday (400m/21km/5km) – ‘test’ race
31 May 2014 – Nottingham Triathlon (750m/20km/5km) – ‘A’ race, cf. last year
That makes for a busy month, but also gives me three weeks before Salisbury to focus solely on training, including starting some swimming!!
