A short month, but a lot happening!
- 13 Feb – Partial Meniscectomy Video
- 17 Feb – Post-Op Physio
- 19 Feb – First workouts after knee op
In the end, I decided not to race the Dorney duathlon this month, but that was only because in the final build-up to the knee op I was managing to inject enough training stress into the body that there would really have been no point. I set a 10 mile run PB (1:02:21 according to Strava, 3:52/km) two days before the surgery, despite being tired all over already, and actually hit a new CTL high in TrainingPeaks.
Recovery and rehab is going better than I expected (touch wood!) and just a fortnight later, I’ve been able to do worthwhile half-hour sessions on the turbo and some of Matt Fitzgerald’s suggested steep uphill walking on the treadmill with no ill effects. I’ve had a couple of physio appointments and a couple of PT sessions this month and have been doing knee stabilisation and leg strength workouts regularly too.
So, feeling relatively positive, I’m looking to resume biking and swimming in March, keep up the gym workouts, and start making a race plan for the season.
Finally, here’s the comparison between this month’s training, last month, and this month last year.
Feb 2015 | Jan 2015 | Feb 2014 | |
Bike | 11:22 | 8:51 | 3:56 |
Run | 4:40 | 13:13 | 8:55 |
Swim | 1:36 | 1:54 | 0:00 |
Tri/Du/Aquathlon | 0:00 | 0:00 | 0:00 |
Gym | 9:16 | 0:00 | 3:40 |
Other | 4:17 | 3:00 (18:58) | 3:00 (12:44) |

(Figures in parentheses include hill walking! Plenty of work for quads and calves, but not very aerobic.)
