Thank you so much to everyone who has already sponsored me in aid of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation. I’m very disappointed to say that the river conditions mean we’re unlikely to be able to go ahead tomorrow. If so, we’ll try again for Sunday, but if things haven’t improved, the challenge will be postponed until next month.

Basingstoke parkrun # 234
The last couple of weeks have been about preparing for next year. I need to write up my awesome bike fit session at Athlete Service in Henley last week, but I’ve also been working out with Nic how to split my winter training time. One thing we agreed was that I should try to keep a race distance run in my weekly programme. Having come across parkrun for the first time earlier this year, and been along to watch Em run it, it looks like it would definitely fit the bill on winter Saturdays. So, this morning, off I went.
Result: 19:12 (11th/244 overall)

Planning
Status
This weekend is the last race I have planned for 2012. I’m actually looking forward to having some weeks to just get consistent training in. But it helps to have something to look forward to, right? So… I’m planning events for next year!
Lance Armstrong
Aside
What cyclist or triathlete hasn’t been following the fall of Lance Armstrong?
Lance was an inspiration and I’m saddened by the revelations that render his entire career worth less. I can only agree with Jonny Brownlee – Lance Armstrong should be banned from triathlon.
Bike fit
Status
With the season drawing to a close, I’ve been thinking about what I need to do to go faster next year – hard graft on the turbo, basically! But… after quite a bit of research on the whole “bike fit” thing, getting some recommendations and talking to the guys at Athlete Service, I’ve booked a bike fit with them for 1 November. I’m hoping to get some advice on aero bars and other kit too. I’ll report back after!
Basingstoke Half Marathon 2012
Phew. It’s October. And this should be the penultimate race report of the year!
Result: 44th/1310 finishers in 1:28:41 (and Sony won the corporate men team prize!)

Eton Dorney Long Swim 2012
I did the “long swim” (3.8 km) at Eton Dorney on Sunday. Having raced on the Saturday as well I was a bit tired, but gave it my best shot.
Result: 11th/42 in 59:39 (yippee!)

The TRI Challenge Team Triathlon 2012
This is an event I really enjoyed back in 2007; I don’t know why it’s taken this long to do it again! Budgie Johnson, Andy Gajraj and I were Team TRI Harder then, and this time around we would be 3 Wise Monkeys.
Result: 11th team / 94
